Conakry Port Information

Conakry is the capital and largest city of Guinea. Conakry is a port city on the Atlantic Ocean and serves as the economic, financial and cultural centre of Guinea with a 2009 population of 1,548,500. Originally situated on Tombo Island, one of the Îles de Los, it has since spread up the neighboring Kaloum Peninsula.

According to a legend, the name of the city comes from the fusion of the name "Cona", a wine producer of the Baga people, and the word "nakiri", which means in Sosso "the other bank or side".

Max draft in port/channel/berth
  1. Inbound vessels: (1) 10 m for vessels entering Port, straight to the bauxite pier and (2) 7m (+) plus height of LW, (-) minis 0.60 m for vessels moving to inner anchorage (Pilots advice: deepest draft for inner anchorage not to exceed 7.50 metres).
  2. Outbound vessels: 11.90 m for neap tides and 13.80 m for spring tides.
  3. The area alongside the wharf has been dredged to a depth of 13.50 m below RDL (RDL= Reference Data Level which is defined as +0.15 m above the lowest water registered).
  4. The maximum sailing draft is stated for each high water on the tide tables
